Printing

Students Inking and Printing their linoleum blocks on the Printing Press

Working as a group, rolling ink onto the blocks
Brayers roll the ink evenly

Placing blocks onto the template

Rolling the prints through the press (wearing the pirate hat is half the fun)

Peeling up the print

Washing up with a big class is half the battle

  2. i think that the inking was a pretty tricky thing to do, becuase it was hard to get the right amount of ink. i also found rolling the templates through the print press was really fun with the pirate hat. overall i really enjoied printing because it was a new experiance for me.

  3. i think that the inking process was very hard because it was a matter of being careful with the amount of ink you use on the brayer. I used the brayer, inking tray, ink, and the printing press. I did most of the paper watching and making sure that the ink was in order and in the right amount to be used. I felt that this entire project was very entertaining and i learned about a lot of new tools that i never knew existed.

    1. I think that the inking process was a forgotten Mission Impossible movie. The whole team had to communicate when we were inking and when we were heading to the printing press. It was also important to know when we had to start inking, if we didn't we ran the risk of the ink on our plates drying. All in all, this was an extremely fun project and thanks to our good team chemistry we were able to create excellent prints and have lots of fun doing it.

  4. I think that the inking process was a bit complicated since it was very rushed, but it was a fun process when we saw how cool our group's carvings looked on paper.

  5. The inking process was one of the more complicated parts to the linoleum next to carving it. Its difficult getting the right amount of ink so that the print comes out and you can see it. But sometimes it came out to light some to dark. But once you get it after a dozen time s its cool to see what you carved in ink!

  6. I felt that it was a very good assignment and it was a lot of fun. Printing was very messy but it's well worth that clean up when you see your final print. Working together was a good experience since we all had to be on the same page so our prints would be clean. It was difficult working with such a big group as well because everyone works at their own pace. Carving was a frustrating process for me but I feel like after I did it enough I got the hang of it and I made a really nice print! :-)

  7. I think the most difficult part of the whole "Hero" project was the carving the lino-block due to wanting your hero to look exactly like you're drawing, but itnstead it comes out completely different. The best/messiest part would have to be the printing because it took many times to get the perfect prints right and we got to have fun in the process. Overall, I liked the project and the experience. I feel like we should do more projects like this in the future. :D

  8. I think the easiest part of the hero project was inking because that was a walk in the park compared to the other steps like carving which was the most difficult step for me.

  9. Bloc Printing was a new experience for me. It was very simple but everyone in out group had to be on the same page or else printing mistakes might have occurred such as the ink drying up when on the bristol paper. The best part about this activity was just analyzing our group's printing mistakes and working together as a well-oiled machine. ;)

  10. I think the block printing process was a bit annoying. I just wanted my group to have the printing press because it was annoying how everyone had to wait to print. Especially because the paint dried easily. I felt the prints came out pretty well. Compared to the process before printing this was better.

    1. Yes, waiting can be hard. We have such a large class. Art studio tends to work best with smaller classes. Ultimately your class managed very well with the number of students who had to use the press. People were efficient, organized, and hard-working

  11. I think that printing is very irritating. The process of doing it over and over again and people not getting along well and not listening. I understand that we have to work as a group but, sometimes group work isn't ging to work. But, I enjoyed the experienced.

    1. Group work can be frustrating. Despite that, exactly what about printing did you enjoy?

  12. I think the printings where really messy. It would take a whole bunch of time to clean them. It was challenging to put the right amount of ink. If u put too much ink it looked so dark and if you put not enough it will be too light, but if u put enough ink it looks really good.

    1. Mario, I'm interested in more detail. WHY was it fun, and how did you deal with the problem of too much ink? What happened?

  15. I think that the block printing process was pretty fun. I have never done this before so i found it kind of cool, fun, and interesting. The carving part was the most difficult. but in the end i think all the prints came out really good.

  16. I think that this assignment was very fun! I had never done anything like block printing. At first, when I looked at my block, I thought my carvings were all messy and messed up, but then when I applied the ink and put it through the printing press, I saw how it printed on the sheets and it was pretty cool! The whole process was messy, but overall I enjoyed this assignment!

  18. In my point of view i think this project was a really fun and great project. Even tho we all had to work together. every group had to ink at the same time so it wont get dry and also we had to make sure we didnt put to much or to less of ink in out bloc. It was a messy job but still had a great time working together as a class.
